RWDC extends technical support to Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis in conducting the public hearing
Dang Ghorahi: March 25, 2021: Rural Women Development Center -RWDC extended its technical support to Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis to conduct its second quarterly public hearing on March 25 at its conference hall in Ghorahi.
The public hearing was conducted as per the guidelines enshrined in Nepal government’s guideline pertaining to Public hearing procedures 2067 which mentions ensuring good governance, transparency and social accountability towards public deliverables from local level to central level.
All 19 ward level tole development committees’ representatives, the general public, representatives of wards, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis including Mayor Naru Lal Chaudhary, Deputy Mayor Sita Sigdel among other officials were present on the occasion.
Various stakeholders had raised questions and grievances regarding the road, gutters, electricity, drinking water, proposed industrial areas, violation of people’s right to health due to movement of unmanaged trippers through the crowded villages causing dust and smoke in the village. Attention of the Ghorahi sub-Metropolis was drawn towards mitigating these problems.
Speaking during the program the Mayor Naru Lal Chaudhary said that the Ghorahi Sub Metropolis has focused on development of physical infrastructure and given preference to improvement of roads, road networks as per the aspiration of the town people.
Mayor also said all the problems raised during the public hearing would be assessed and appropriate resolutions will be adopted to address such problems.
Chief administrative officer Rishi Ram KC, senior engineer Yubraj Poudel and other department chiefs of concerned divisions had responded to concerns raised during the public hearing.
The public hearing was organized by Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis and technically supported by Gramin Mahila Utthan Kendra (Rural Women Development Center -RWDC) and the program was moderated by Nabin Chaudhary who is also the project coordinator of Civil Society Mutual Accountability Project (CS: MAP) and he has been overseeing the issues of social accountability of local government agencies with respect to agricultural, education, health and disaster risk management services delivered to the welfare of the public in Dang district from 2017 till date.
RWDC’s staff Rajani Shrestha had presented Community Report Card and Exit pole about public hearing during the program while Puran Adhikari had also assisted in the management of public questions.
