Project Report on 3 months Beauty Parlour, Sewing and Tailoring Training
Background Information:
Sickle cell disease is a specific disease commonly seen among the Tharu community. It is called sickle cell anemia because of the presence of elongated sickle-shaped red blood cells in the bloodstream. This is an inherited disease. Sickle cell anaemia has been observed mainly in the Tharu community of Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, and Kanchanpur districts. Whether sickle cell disease is present or not, confirmation requires a blood test. Due to the unavailability of the haemoglobin electrophoresis device for blood testing, patients in rural municipalities and sub-metropolitan areas are facing problems in getting their blood tested. Keeping this in mind, with the support of MetLife Insurance, the Rural Women’s Development Center- RWDC organized free health camps for sickle cell anaemia check-ups on June 17, 2023. In the free camp, out of the 412 people who received services at the free health camp, 41 sickle cell patients were identified. Therefore, the government has made arrangements for free treatment equivalent to one lakh rupees for sickle cell patients. Despite some relief through government assistance in treatment, lack of adequate knowledge and awareness about sickle cell has led affected individuals to spend a lot of money and even lose their lives in emergencies, as revealed by the statistics.
