March 29, 2022: An interaction program on the accessibility and proportional representation of women and marginalized communities in the upcoming local elections was held in Ghorahi on March 29, 2022, at Hotel City Plaza by the Rural Women’s Development Center -RWDC (Gramin Mahila Utthan Kendra) Dang, which has been funded by USAID and technically supported by FHI360, Kathmandu.

The program was designed with a perspective to get GESI achievement in the local elections to ensure that political parties and their male-dominated leaders are inclined to provide more political rights to women and marginalized groups to pave the way for a proportional representation of all sectors and full development of the state organs.

Nepali Congress Dang Secretary Arjun Yogi, CPN-UML Dang’s Bibek Shrestha, Rashtriya Janamorcha Party’s Ganesh Acharya, and Janamukti Party’s Jit Bahadur Budha were present at the program to express their commitment towards allotment of leadership seats to the countable number of women and marginalized groups in the local elections.

These leaders including those of the Janmorcha and Janmukti parties expressed positive notes to promote the leadership and participation of women and marginalized groups while the leaders of major political parties still hinted that they were still not yet convinced to give way to the leadership of women and marginalized communities. Vice President of Federation of Nepali Journalists Dang Basundhara Gautam, Binod KC of INSEC Dang, Secretary of Nepal Family Planning Association Dang Maya Pokhrel, Coordinator of Women Human Rights Defenders Network Dang Shusila Poudel among others had stressed the need to give priority to paving the way for these targeted communities to get access to decisive posts in the elections through political decisions.

The Editor of NayaYougboth daily and women human rights activist Laxmi Acharya presented the concept paper.
